(55:22 + Q&A) - Dr. Ramachandra Gambheer, Senior Technical Operations Leader, Cisco Systems -- The whole world is marching towards digitization in almost every field. Evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) has accelerated digitization. While digitization in every field increases efficiency and resilience, at the same time it is resulting in  increased greenhouse gas (GHG) and hence the carbon (CO2) emissions. Unless the products are designed to be sustainable, the carbon emissions will destroy the planet. Not only that, soon we will exhaust the natural available resources. To combat this, the majority of technology companies around the world have pledged to meet the Net Zero challenge. This lecture aims at highlighting the concepts of GHG, the need to make products sustainable, design for sustainability for green hardware and software, and typical use cases of the green network.

Dr. Ramachandra Gambheer is Senior Technical Operations Leader at Cisco Systems Inc., San Jose. He has 31 years of overall experience in the field of hardware systems design, IoT, high volume hardware test automation and has published several papers in national and international journals. He has designed several FPGA-based embedded systems for various industries including machine vision. He is a joint recipient of VLSI’99 International award for FPGA-based design. He is an alumni and also former faculty member of NITK (KREC), Surathkal, India. His research area is IoT. He has co-authored the text book “Design of Secure IoT Systems: A Practical Approach Across Industries” published by McGraw Hill.
